Plating Wastewater Engineer
Location: Alajuela, Costa Rica
JOB SUMMARY: To manage and control the wastewater treatment system to ensure environmental compliance. To provide total environmental compliance with all local, state, and federal laws.
KEY FUNCTIONS:
- Monitor and maintain the wastewater treatment system through analysis of impurities and the upkeep of daily monitoring reports. Responsible for operating the system within compliance limits.
- Troubleshoot system issues of a mechanical and chemical nature in order to maintain total environmental compliance.
- Ensure periodic PM on system components per predefined schedules.
- Ensure that all waste bi-products are drummed, labeled and properly stored in accordance with all environmental laws. Assist in shipments of all hazardous waste to ensure that all applicable laws are met.
- Ensure the upkeep of the Deionizer system to provide high quality water source for the plating lines. Perform periodic PM on the system per predefined schedules.
- Manage the upkeep of Fume Scrubbers throughout the Plating Department, and periodic PM on the systems per predefined schedules.
- Keep chemical drums with adequate supply to treat wastewater stream.
- Could potentially involve handling hazardous materials.
- Reduction of wastewater discharge, quantities, COD’s and impurities.
- Any other job related duties as assigned by management.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
- Essential functions of the job include the ability to stand, lift, and walk on continual basis.
- Must be willing to work in a chemical environment safely.
- Must be able to obtain and retain a minimum Class B Wastewater License.
- Must have the ability work with heavy drums of chemicals with a drum dolly.
- Must be able to communicate with local, state, and federal agencies regarding wastewater compliance.
- Must be fluent in English language, oral and written skills.
REQUIRED TRAINING AND EDUCATION:
Training -
- Must pass an annual RCRA Training Course.
- Must pass an annual Safety Training Class
Education –
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Plating Journeyman designation.
- Associates Degree in Chemical/Technical related fields.
- On the job experience can replace or supplement educational requirements.
- Knowledge of Reverse Osmosis, Ionic Exchange, Membrane Filtration and Clarifiers.
