Agilent
previously selected a Samtec interface for their newest logic analyzer:
model 16760A. The probe (high-speed cable assembly) needed to connect the
analyzer to the target board is equipped with a Samtec connector. Therefore,
all target boards require Samtec connector number ASP-65067-01 to interface
with the analyzer. |
|
Recently,
Agilent officially released a new, universal probe that
will allow anyone to use Samtec connectors for their
target boards, regardless of the analyzer model that
they will be using.
(See chart below.)
|
Agilent now recommends
using Samtec part ASP-65067-01 on all target boards that will be tested
using any Agilent logic analyzer because:
"Agilent recommends the E5378A, E5379A, or E5385A (analysis probes)
for new designs. These probes provide lower input capacitance, lower inductance,
and better isolation between adjacent signals compared to the E5346A and
E5380A. The mating connector for these probes does not require through-holes
in the PC board under the connector, thus greatly alleviating restrictions
on signal routing." |
|
| In
order to use the E5378A, E5379A, or E5385A analysis probes,
the Samtec ASP-65067-01 mating connector must be designed
in as the test point connector(s) for all target boards. |

Options for utilizing the Samtec design:
|
- When
using the new 16760A high speed logic analyzer from
Agilent, Samtec ASP-65067-01 should be placed on all
target boards as the test point connector.
- When
using any previous model Agilent logic analyzer, Samtec
ASP-65067-01 can be placed on all new target boards
as the test point connector by using the new E5385A
universal probe from Agilent.
-
The 38 pin test point connector on an existing target
board may be replaced with Samtec ASP-65067-01 by
using the new E5385A universal probe from Agilent.
However, the board must be redesigned to match the
Samtec footprint and Agilent's recommended routing.
- Previous
Agilent probe model E5346A may be replaced with the
new E5385A probe to allow Samtec connector ASP-65067-01
to be used as the test point connector for all target
boards.
