SFP-Small Form-Factor Pluggable MSA
The Small Form-Factor
Pluggable (SFP) MSA (Multi Source Agreement) is a specification for
a common interface for optical modular transceivers. SFP
products include compact optical transceivers and patch cord cable assemblies
that are typically used in telecommunications, data communications, and
storage area networks. The products are designed for use with the SFP
right angle connector and SFP cage assembly to offer high speed and
physical compactness while also being hot-swappable.
SFP transceivers
can perform up to 4.25 Gbps and are designed to support Gigabit
Ethernet, Fibre Channel, and other communication standards as well.
Because SFP modules can be easily interchanged, electro-optical or
fiber optic networks can be upgraded and maintained more conveniently
than has been the case with traditional soldered-in modules. This
can result in a substantial cost savings both in maintenance and in
upgrading efforts. (http://searchnetworking.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid7_gci753546,00.html)

Samtec's MECT-110-01-M-D-RA1 complies with the SFP specifications.
The SFPC series designates the corresponding cage for the MECT, and
the SFPK Series is a kit including the RA connector and the cage.
