ELV-Vehicle Directive (Directive 2000/53/EC)

The ELV Directive (End-of-Life Vehicle Directive) was adopted by the European Auto Manufacturers in April of 2002 and is currently in effect as of July 2003. The purpose of the Directive is to identify, reduce, and ultimately ban the use of the environmentally unfriendly "four heavy metals" listed below:

  • Cadmium
  • Hexavalent Chromium
  • Lead
  • Mercury
