This past fall, Samtec began the process of applying to be designated an “Indiana Environmental Steward”. The program was developed and is maintained by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The application was submitted in October, and in December 2008, members of the I.D.E.M. conducted a site audit in order to better understand how Samtec conducts business in an environmentally friendly way.
A major part of the application process addresses past accomplishments to enhance the environment. Samtec scored high marks in recycling of excess raw materials from the manufacturing process (plastics, metal stampings, and precious metals) as well as our Cardboard and Office Paper Waste Programs.
On the horizon is our commitment to reduce wastewater discharge by 15%, reduce packaging waste by 50%, and reduce electricity consumption by 10%.
