Effective immediately, Samtec will no longer offer the screw machine socket SC-2S1-XX, SS/SD leadstyle -4 and TO-5420-GT-S.

11/09 In a continued effort to meet our customer needs, effective immediately Samtec is expanding the end option callouts of the Acclimate™ IP68 Sealed High Density Cable Assembly SCP2 Series. This update will allow our customers to callout both end options instead of just one and allow Samtec to expand end options in the future.

This change does not affect the form, fit, or function of the SCP2 Series that customers are currently purchasing. This is strictly for the part number call out only. Just a few customers are affected and open orders have been switched over. Any new orders will be converted when placed.

08/09 In a continued effort to meet our customer needs, effective immediately Samtec is expanding the end option callouts of the Acclimate™ IP68 Power Circular Cable Assemblies SCP1 and SCR1 Series. This update will allow our customers to callout both end options of the SCP1 and SCR1 instead of just one.

This change does not affect the form, fit, or function of the SCP1/SCR1 Series that the customer is currently purchasing. This is strictly for the part number call out only.

06/09

Effective immediately, Samtec is updating several RF cable assembly series to incorporate a plating option into the callouts and releasing several new end options.  This plating update is customer driven and in most cases will not involve any changes to existing Samtec part numbers.  Please make sure to mark out your Full Line Catalog pages and focus on the web catalog pages and assembly prints when ordering parts, pricing and requesting samples.

Here are links to the updated catalog pages, which are also listed on the web:

With most RF cable assemblies we can use the existing “end options” callout to specify the plating.  For example, if a customer is purchasing contact -07BJ1 on a RF316 Series they will continue to do so because the “1” in the -07BJ1 callout refers to an all gold plating option.

We need to change the last number in a few RF assembly end option callouts to specify a different type of plating and to be consistent with future ordering specs.  The actual plating type and thickness will not change,.  The following is a breakdown of the new plating numbers (at the end of “end options” callout) and what they mean:

1 = 30 Microinches Gold on Center Contact, Gold Flash on Shell

2 = 30 Microinches Gold on Center Contact, Nickel on Shell

3 = 10 Microinches Gold on Center Contact, Nickel on Shell

Because some of the RF contacts in the catalog are available in several plating options on the assembly prints, an “Also Available” note will be added to each catalog page to contact Samtec for other plating choices

I have listed the series and contacts below affected by this change.

06/09

Due to low sales and a long lead time on material that does not fit Samtec’s Service levels, Samtec will only continue to offer the SEL Series (One Piece Connector) to existing customers.  Samtec will re-evaluate in 12 months on what the sales are at that time and decide then if the series should be removed entirely.

The SEL Series will be removed from the next catalog and has been removed from the web.  Not an exact cross, but with the same centerline, the SEI Series is an alternative choice.

03/09

The AMC Series has been put on hold and is being removed from the F-209-1 catalog (F-209-1 catalog scheduled for release in May).  If and when this series is available for sale, I will notify everyone with a catalog page and a link to the web.

If you have a customer interested in a High Speed Card Connector in the meantime as a possible replacement, refer them to the MTCA and PCIE Series.  A right angle version of the PCIE Series is in design with a scheduled release in April.

02/09

Effective immediately, Samtec will no longer offer the –HP (High Power) contact option on the PMSD, PMSS, IPBS and CC69 Series on new business.

This will not affect existing customers because those customers will be allowed to continue to purchase the –HP contact option.

The reason for the change is results from Power Revamp testing were not favorable and customers can purchase the –SP (Standard Power) Contact Option and get similar results.

01/09

Effective immediately, Samtec will only offer the MHDMI Series with a -TR (tape-n-reel) option on new business.  This in no way changes the fit, form or function of the actual MHDMI Series.

This packaging change does not affect the Samtec part numbers (callouts) customers have been purchasing from us.  For instance, if your customer purchased an MHDMI-19-02-H-TH-L, they will continue to purchase that same callout.

A benefit of using tape-n-reel is better protection of parts once at the customer.  Customer only uses what parts they want in the reel and other parts are not disturb vs. trays.

01/09

Effective immediately, Samtec will only offer the ERM8 and ERF8 Series with a -TR (tape-n-reel) option on new business.  This in no way changes the fit, form or function of the actual ERM8 and ERF8 Series and only affects the vertical and right angle versions.  Tape-n-reel will be available as an option on the edgemount version.

This packaging change does not affect the Samtec part numbers (callouts) customers have been purchasing from us.  For instance, if your customer purchased an ERF8-020-05.0-L-DV, they will continue to purchase that same callout and still receive parts in trays, new customer business will receive tape-n-reel packaging.

A benefit of using tape-n-reel is better protection of parts once at the customer.  Customer only uses what parts they want in the reel and other parts are not disturb vs. trays.

12/08

Effective Immediately, Samtec will no longer offer the VPDP Series as a standard.  There are not any open customer orders.  If you have an existing customer who still wants to purchase the standard VPDP, they can do so as an HDR (Custom) without the engineering charges.

The VPDP is not in the F-209 Full Line Catalog and the sales are very low.  I will be forwarding a list of customers to those rep organizations or territory managers with customers who are affected by this change.

As a possible replacement, Samtec also offers the VPLSP and VPSTP Series which is located on page 322 in the F-209 Full Line Catalog.

12/08

Effective immediately, Samtec will not release the QEM8 Series -02.0 lead style located on page 76 of the F-208 Full Line Catalog.  I will begin the process of having the web catalog page version updated.

12/08

Effective immediately, the series names for the GITJ, GITP, and GITJ-C Series have been changed to IJ5, IP5, and IJ5C, respectively.  This will allow Samtec to expand these Ganged RF product families and be consistent with the letters in the series callouts (For example, QTX, QSX…etc.)

10/08

Due to recent concerns that Solder Charges on the leads of the SEAF and SEAM Series may fall off during the shipping and storage at the customer of these connectors in trays has prompted Samtec to modify the standard packaging option for the SEAM and SEAF Series.  Effective immediately, Samtec will only offer the SEAM and SEAF with a –K (pick-n-place pad) and –TR (tape-n-reel).  This in no way changes the fit, form or function of the actual SEAM and SEAF Series.

This packaging change does not affect the Samtec part numbers (callouts) customers have been purchasing from us.  For instance, if your customer purchases a SEAF-30-06.5-S-08-2-A, they will continue to purchase that same callout, but they will receive a pick-n-place pad and tape-n-reel packaging.

Here are the links to the updated catalog pages to be used for ordering new samples, placing new orders and quoting:

 /Documents/WebFiles/PDF/seaf.pdf

 /Documents/WebFiles/PDF/seam_gp.pdf

 /Documents/WebFiles/PDF/seaf_ra.pdf

These updated catalog pages have been added to the web.

For most product, either trays or tape-n-reel packaging are acceptable.  However, there are two benefits to tape-n-reel packaging for SEARAY:

Less movement of parts during shipping by being placed in individual pockets verses trays

Better protection of parts once at customer.  Customer only uses what parts they want in the reel and other parts are not disturb verses trays.

The minimum requirements for tape-n-reel packaging have been removed for the SEAM and SEAF Series so your customer can order any quantity.

08/08

Effective September 1st 2008, Samtec will no longer offer the screw machine terminal T-1R13-G or T.

The sales on this lead style were very low and only a small number of customers were affected.  I will be forwarding a list of customers to those rep organizations, territory managers or country managers with customers who are affected by this update.  Samtec will honor existing orders through August 31st.

New orders will be accepted based on availability of material so check with your customers on their usage through August 31st.

07/08

Effective immediately, Samtec will no longer offer the SSK Series.  If you have a customer who wishes to purchase the SSK Series, please inform them that the SSA, SLW and CES Series are possible replacements.  The SSA accepts .015” (.38mm) to .022” (.56mm) diameter lead and most IC leads.  The SLW and CES will accept a .025” (.64mm) square lead.

This original cutoff date for the SSK Series was December 31, 2007, but we allowed orders to continue.  I will be forwarding a list of customers to those rep organizations, territory managers and country managers with customers who are affected.

07/08

A Keyed Polarization option has been added to the IPL1 -K, SCR2 -DK, MMSD -K, MMSS –K and IPD1 -K Series as a required callout on all new customer designs.  This Keyed Polarization Option will eliminate a customers concern of miss mating of an IPL1 to a MMSD as one example.

The Keyed Polarization option does not change the fit, form or function of the series listed above.

Here is a link to updated catalog pages that have also been added to the web:

 http://www.samtec.comm/Documents/WebFiles/PDF/scr2.pdf

 /Documents/WebFiles/PDF/mmsd.pdf

 /Documents/WebFiles/PDF/ipl1.pdf

This will not affect existing customers because those customers will be allowed to continue to purchase the older version.

07/08

The QRM8 and QRF8 Series callouts have changed to QEM8 and QEF8.  Here are links to the updated catalog pages that have also been added to web.

/Documents/WebFiles/PDF/qem8.pdf

/Documents/WebFiles/PDF/qef8.pdf

There is no change to the fit, form or function of the part.  The estimated release of these series is August.

This change will allow Samtec to use the QRM8/QRF8 series name for future expansion of the Q-Rate product line.

05/08

The -01BJ2 end option has been released for sale for the RF174, RF178 and RF316 cable assemblies.  This end option has been added to the catalog pages and placed on the web.  Here is a link to these pages:

/Documents/WebFiles/PDF/rf174.pdf

/Documents/WebFiles/PDF/RF178.PDF

/Documents/WebFiles/PDF/RF316.PDF

04/08

The minimum number of positions for the –P (Plastic Pick-n-Place Pad) option offered in the catalog has changed from 5 to 6.  Here is an updated catalog page already loaded to the web:

Customers can order smaller sizes, but must contact Samtec first for availability.

04/08

With the upcoming addition of a loose contact version of the T-1M44 Series, Samtec has modified the callout to include this new option.  Here is a breakdown of the new callout:

T1M44-R-2830-01-H (Full Reel)
T1M44-L-2830-01-H (Loose Contact)

03/08 We have made an update to the cable length of the FFTP/FMTP. The -08.84 length callout has changed to -08.87.
03/08

The good news is we have an improved, more intuitive part numbering system for the Q2 product line.  The good news is our existing current customers do not have to change their part number.

Effective immediately, Samtec is updating the lead style callouts on the QMS, QFS, QMSS and QFSS Series.  The new lead style callouts, when added together, equal the board spacing distance of the Q2 system.  This makes it easier to design-in and select the right socket and terminal combination.

This change does not affect existing customers; they will be allowed to continue to order the current lead styles.  This change also does not affect the QMS/QFS right angle or edge mount options and QMSS edge mount option.

Here is a breakdown of the change:

                              Current                  New

Series                   Lead Style         Lead Style

QMS/QMSS            -10                     -05.75

QMS/QMSS            -11                     -06.75

QFS/QFSS               -01                    -04.25

03/08

Samtec is in the process of expanding the MODS-LJ Series to include LED options and In-line multi banks.  Due to the addition of these new options, Samtec is updating the MODS-LJ Series part number call out that is currently in the F-207 Full Line Catalog.

03/08

The RSEAF Series will not be released and has been removed from the F-208 catalog due in the next two weeks.  The SEAF-RA, which uses a wafer instead of a flex cable in the RSEAF, will have a better performance with lower cost.  The estimated release for sale of the SEAF-RA is 4th Quarter 2008 with samples available the end of Summer.

03/08

The SCPC/SCRC Series will not be released.  Please mark this series out of your F-208 catalog page 189.  This series will be removed from the F-208-1 catalog due for release September/October of this year.  A re-design version is in the works but has a mid 2009 estimated completion.

02/08

Effective July 1st 2008, Samtec will no longer offer the screw machine socket SC-2P2 and screw machine terminals T-1R14-04 and T-1R14-05.
