Samtec will begin changing the plating on the solder tails of the QSE, QTE, QSH, QTH, QTS, QSS, BSE, BTE, BSH, BTH, BSS, BTS, MIS, and MIT Series from Gold flash to Matte Tin. This plating change includes the tails on the signal pins for all series listed, and the tails on the ground plane on the Q-Series® and MIS/MIT products. Please note that the contact area on the signal pins and ground plane remain gold. We expect this change to take up to six months to complete.
Samtec historically designs surface mount interconnect systems with Gold on the contact area and Tin on the tails. Continuous process improvements in our electroplating capabilities now permit us to offer this same selective Gold/Tin plating combination on our Q-Series®, B-Series, and MIS/MIT products.
This plating change does not affect the call out/Samtec part number customers have been purchasing from us. For instance, if your customer purchases a QTE-040-01-L-D-A, they will continue to purchase that same callout, but they will receive Matte Tin plating on the solder tails. All Gold plating is still available as an ASP. |

Samtec has recently had to switch suppliers for the ZF1 and ZF5 Series due to unavoidable circumstances. Samtec was able to find an alternative supplier, but there are differences that may affect your customers’ design.
Here is a breakdown of the changes:
ZF1 Series
- The weld tab design has changed. The new design has the weld tab on the surface mount lead side only. The old design had the weld tab on the lead side and the top and end of the body.
- The overall height of the part changed from .098” (2.50mm) to .118” (3.00mm)
- In the cam closed position, the distance from the edge of the weld tab to the top of the cam changed from .180” (4.57mm) to .190” (4.83mm).
ZF5 Series
- Overall length has increased by .005”.(.127mm)
- Surface mount lead length, -01 and -02 style, has changed from .030” (.762mm) to .031” (.787mm).
These changes will not affect the customers’ current footprint.
Since the most dramatic changes affect the ZF1 Series, I will be forwarding a list of customers to those rep organizations with customers who are affected by this change. On some of the higher usages, the new version is already being shipped out.
New catalog pages have been loaded to the web for each series. |
|
| 09/07 |
Effective immediately, Samtec will no longer offer the DHSC Series. There have not been any sales on this series and was removed from the catalog in 2007. |
|
| 08/07 |
Effective December 31st 2007, Samtec will no longer offer the SSK Series. If you have a customer who wishes to purchase the SSK Series, please inform them that the SSA, SLW and CES Series are possible replacements. The SSA accepts .015” (.38mm) to .022” (.56mm) diameter lead and most IC leads. The SLW and CES will accept a .025” (.64mm) square lead. |
|
| 06/07 |
Effective immediately, the plating callout “-S” for the SFSD and CC03 Series is being changed to “-H” on all new purchase orders. The callout change does not affect the actual plating of the contact since it was discovered that we have only been able to plate all Gold (30 micro Gold on contact and Gold Flash on balance) on the contact since these series were released. This change will help keep the plating callouts consistent with our other Samtec series. There are no plans on having our existing customers change the way they have been ordering the SFSD and CC03 in the past.
Also, the TFM/SFSD retention option is now added to these pages.
SFSD - -SR (Single Ended with Retention Latch) option
-DR (Double Ended with Retention Latch) option
TFM - -WT (Weld Tab) option |
|
06/07 |
Effective immediately, Samtec will no longer offer the SCWS Series. If you have a customer who wishes to purchase the SCWS Series, please inform them this series is available through Comm Con. The SCWS will be removed from the next printing of the Black and White Supplement. |
|
05/07 |
Effective immediately, Samtec is changing the RF cable series name of the RF081 to MH081 and RF113 to MH113 on any new orders. This change does not affect the fit, form or function of the cable assembly and is a name change only.
Samtec will not ask our customers with existing orders to change their callouts. The last order with either the RF081 or RF113 Series name is August 6th.
Samtec makes every effort to not change series names or part numbers, but decided to so in this instance since “Micro High Frequency” (MH) is more recognizable to our customers. |
|
04/07 |

a standard option. These options have been removed from the F-207 catalog

callout will be required. |
|

On
the HDMI Series in the F-206-1 catalog,

Samtec
will no longer offer the CJ, CSS, CSS/25, CSP, CSP/25 and CSC Series. Samtec still has some material on these cables,
so we will continue to supply these to existing orders, through the end

years. |

|
08/06 |
In
your F-206 catalog on pages 276 (ZF5 Series) and page 278 (ZF1 Series),
the plating option has changed from
Tin-lead to Matte Tin. We have been in the process of making this
swtich to Matte Tin over the past six months and now the
change is complete. The plating option callout will remain "-T".
If you have a customer requesting Tin-Lead Plating, then it will be
an ASP.
|
|
06/06 |
Effective
immediately, Samtec will no longer offer the lead style -02 and -03

18, 22 and 25 positions for the ZF5 Series have also been removed from
the F-206 Catalog as a standard offering. One addition now being
offered is a 40 position in the ZF5 Series.

This change will be
made to the F-206-1 Catalog. |
|

Samtec will
no longer offer the IDP, IDCC, IDCP, CP, CS, LCP, LCC and PSP Series. These
series have been out of the catalog for many years.
This change takes effect
immediately. |
|
05/06 |
From
the F-206 Catalog, remove the –PBF Option, which is a Lead Free
RoHS Compliant Option, for the SADL Series (page 97), HFHM/HFHM2 Series
(page 98), HFEM/HFEM2 Series (page 99) and the ZFHF/HSF8 Series (page
100).
We are in a transition
period of changing all of our Flex to Lead Free and should be complete
by early 3rd Quarter 2006. Therefore, this option will not be needed in
the callout.
Flex is also adding
the TFMDL and FSIF Series (page 282) to this change. Please mark your
F-206 catalog. |
|
05/06 |
Effective
immediately, Samtec will no longer offer the “–S” (Selective
Gold) and the “-L” (Selective Gold) Plating Option as a standard
offering for the DSM-098, DSM-318, DSM-590, and DSM-VT Series and the “-L”
(Selective Gold) Plating Option on the DSM-SM Series. Please remove these
plating options from your F-206 Full Line Catalog. |
|
04/06 |
Effective
immediately, Samtec will no longer offer the SCC Series as a standard
offering. If you have a customer who wishes to purchase the SCC
Series, please contact the RSP Department at Samtec to check on the availability
as a custom. |
|
04/06 |
Effective
immediately, Samtec will no longer offer the Type “-A” Option
on the MUSB Series as a standard offering in the catalog. If you have
a customer who wishes to purchase the MUSB Type A, then minimums may apply.
The Type “-AB”
has been used as an alternative for some customers. This change only affects
a few customers, and sales of this option are very low. I will be forwarding
a list of customers to those few rep organizations with customers who
are affected by this change. |
|
04/06 |
Effective
immediately, Samtec will no longer offer the “-M” Metal Pick-n-Place
Pad Option on the FTM and FTMH Series. Please remove this option from your
F-206 Full Line Catalog. Samtec will continue to offer the lower cost “-P”
Plastic Pick-n-Place Pad Option. |
|
02/06 |
The EDPAF
Series is not going to be released and has been removed from the web.
Unfortunately, the F-206 catalog was already too far along in production
to change, so please mark your catalog when you receive your new version.
New Products is working
on a right angle version (RDPAF Series) that will be released some time
this Fall. The RDPAF will be more processing-friendly for our customers.
No samples are available at this time. Here is the F-206 catalog page
of the RDPAF Series:

01/06 |
Effective
immediately, Samtec will no longer accept orders for the CLS Series. The
CLS Series was a lower cost alternative to the BCS and SSM Series sockets.
Process and manufacturing improvements now allow us to sell the higher
quality, more reliable BCS and SSM Series at the same or lower price than
the CLS Series. The BCS and SSM Series are the same form, fit and function
as the CLS Series.
Please contact your
customers, as outlined below, and notify them of the change. Please explain
to them the following:
- BCS, SSM = same form, fit and function as the CLS
- BCS, SSM = more reliable contact system ("Box" vs Dual Wipe Tiger Claw)
- BCS, SSM = same or lower price than CLS
- Reason for the
change is internal manufacturing improvements
1. Samtec
Reps, Country Managers - I will forward, via email, a list
of customers in your territory who have purchased the CLS Series.
Notify them immediately about this change.
2. Samtec
Distributors - Run a listing of your customers who have purchased
the CLS Series and immediately notify those customers about the upcoming
change.
3. Samtec
Reps - You are responsible for following up with your distributors
to make sure they are contacting their customers.

Samtec
is currently working on switching the PK-07 and PK-06 polarization keys
from black to a natural color. This is being done in an effort to make
the plugs more visible so it will be easier for the connectors to be positioned
correctly in our tape and reel packaging and to help our customers when
placing these parts on their PC Boards.
Because this change
does not affect the fit, form or function of the series listed below,
we are not planning on doing a full scale announcement to all of our customers
affected. Becky Ott has a smaller list of customers that have to be contacted
of any change whether this directly affects them or not.
These are the series
that will be effected: MMS, SMM, SQT, SQW, TCMD "-T" Transferred
End, TCSD,YTE, YTQ, YTS and ESQT. This change will start to take place
sometime around the first week of February. |

As
new Data Rate (high speed cable) products are being developed, the need
has arisen to revise a callout currently in the catalog to make the series
names more consistent and to facilitate future new product introductions.
The SQDP Series, located on page 111 in the F-205-1 catalog, is being changed
to 6QDPS. The web and the pages related to the web are in the process of
being updated. We
try to not change series names or part numbers, but decided to so in this
instance since the SQDP Series has not been released and we have only
one customer purchase order. We are not planning on doing a full scale
announcement. |
|
11/05 |
In
an effort to reposition the GMMCX Series for engineering purposes, the GMMCX
Series name is changing to the GRF1 Series. The GMMCX Series consisted of
several MMCX connectors in one plastic body. The insertion/withdrawal forces
of several MMCX’s made the GMMCX difficult mate and un-mate. The MMCX
pins were redesigned to lower these insertion/withdrawal forces. While the
new pins are easier to work with they are no longer MMCX connectors. Keeping
the GMMCX Series name would confuse customers. No
changes are being made to the option callouts already in the catalog.
Since this series has not been released and none have been sold, no notification
will need to be made to customers.
The GRF1 Series name
will replace the GMMCX in the F-206 catalog. |
|
10/05 |
To
improve the quality and manufacturability of the Samtec PTHF Series, we
have added a .015” support ledge (or “lip”, or “step”)
to the plastic body. This ledge runs the length of one side of the bottom
of the body. This change does not affect the customer’s pcb pad layout
in any way, nor does it affect the mating of any Samtec connectors to the
PTHF. This could affect a customer if they have another component on the
pcb which is placed very close to the PTHF connector. This change will take
effect December 1, 2005. |
|
10/05 |
The
CPDP and CRDPC Series will not be released. These series were still in development.
Samtec has not built any samples or customer orders.. The CPDP and CRDPC
will be removed from the F-206 catalog, web and any other pieces of literature
as they are reprinted. |

MODM-A/MODM-B/MODM-E/MODS-F option callout change
In an effort to make sure our product series callouts are consistent and
easier-to-use, Samtec is revising the shielded with Panel Grounds Option
callouts on the MODM-A, MODM-B, MODM-E and MODS-F. These changes will
take effect July 1 st, 2005. The changes to these callouts will not change
in any way the fit, form and function.
Here is an outline
of each of the changes:
MODM-A:
Change –S-PG (Shield with Panel Ground) Option to –S4.
Example – MODM-A-02-8P8C-L-S-PG change to MODM-A-02-8P8C-L-S4
MODM-B:
Change –S (Shield with Panel Ground) Option to –S4.
Example – MODM-B-02-8P8C-L-S change to MODM-B-02-8P8C-L-S4
MODM-E:
Change –S (Shield with Panel Ground) Option to –S4.
Example – MODM-E-02-8P8C-U-S-G-G change to MODM-E-02-8P8C-U-S4-G-G
MODS-F:
Change –S (Shield with Panel Ground) Option to –S4

MEC8
-01 Lead Style Insulator Color Change
Effective July 1, 2005, Samtec will change the color of the MEC8 -01 lead
style insulator from Black to a Natural (White) color. This change will
not affect the fit, form or function of the part. This
change will affect few customers since most are using the -02 lead style
version listed in the catalog.
The change in color
will help Samtec better control our inventory and reduce the possibility
of quality issues.
Please contact your
customers, as outlined below, and notify them of this change.

DPAF/DPAM
Lead Style Change
Due to the future expansion of the DPAM Series to include an elevated
version, Samtec has updated the lead style callouts for the DPAF and DPAM
Series. The DPAF lead style has been changed from “-01” to
“-03.0”. The DPAM lead style has been changed from “-10”
to “-07.0”.
This change will make
the customers life a little easier in the long run when trying to decide
on a stack height. For instance on the current offering, the DPAF -03.0
lead style + DPAM -07.0 lead style = 10.0mm stack height. In the future
you will see other stack heights. For instance, the -03.0 + -09.5 = 12.5mm
stack height.
Note: No physical
changes have been made to the parts themselves. |

TUBES
TO TRAYS
In an effort to improve quality and service levels to our customers, standard
packaging for the MEC8-DV, HSEC8-DV, QMSS, QFSS, QTH-DP, QSH-DP, QTE-DP,
QSE-DP, QTH-EM, QSH-EM, QSS-EM, QTS-EM, QTE-EM, QSE-EM, QSE -01 lead style
with –GP option, and QTE -01 lead style with –GP option will
switch from Tubes to Trays.
Customers may begin
receiving trays after March 7, 2005. Customers will not need to change
their part number callouts. For example, if a customer has been purchasing
a MEC8-130-02-S-DV-A or a QSE-014-01-L-D-DP-A, they will not need to change
the callout to receive tray packaging. Likewise, those who specify Tape-n-Reel
packaging (-TR option at the end of the part number) will still receive
Tape-n-Reel packaging.
Tray packaging insures
optimal quality using Samtec’s Automated Vision Inspection System
for inspection of co-planarity, missing and bent pens.
Packaging Tubes will
only be available as an ASP. Please contact Samtec’s ASP Department
to have an ASP number setup. |

PLATING
OPTION CALLOUT FOR ALL MOD JACK IS BEING REVAMPED
Effective immediately, we are revamping the plating option callouts for
all Mod Jack Series.
Here are changes that will affect the MODS-A, MODS-B, MODS-C, MODS-E,
MODS-G,
MODM-A and MODM-C Series:
Change –L to –G (update plating description to Gold Flash
on tails, not Tin-lead)
Change –S to –H (update plating description to Gold Flash
on tails, not Tin-Lead)
Change –E plating description to Gold Flash on tails, not Tin-Lead.
Here is a change that will affect the MODS-D, MODS-F, MODM-B, MODM-D and
MODM-E Series:
Change –E to –U (plating description will not be effected)
These changes will make the plating callouts more consistent with the
rest of the Samtec catalog. |

EHT
PICK-N-PLACE PAD DIMENSION CHANGE
Effective November 1, 2004, Samtec will be modifying the
dimensions of the Pick-n-Place Pad Option currently used in the EHT Series
that is packaged in Tape-n-Reel only. This change does not affect any
other packaging methods used for the EHT Series.
The added
plastic on the edge may interfere with the placement of the EHT on the
customers PC Board depending on the layout of the other components.
This change will allow the EHT to be oriented in such a way that the parts
can not be placed incorrectly in the Tape-n-Reel Packaging at Samtec. |

HDR
PART NUMBER CHANGE IN CALLOUT
We are in the process of reducing the length of the callout for
the HQCD (page 62 & 328), EQCD (page 62 & 327), HQDP (page 63
& 326), EQDP (page 63 & 324) and SQDP (page 64 & 325) Series
in the F-204 catalog due to the number of characters used and the limitations
we have in our system.
Because of this, the callout for the Screw Option has been reduced down.
