Evaluation and Development Kits
14 Gbps FireFly™ FMC™ Development Kit
REF-193429-01
Company: Samtec
Samtec's 14 Gbps FireFly™ FMC™ Module provides up to 140 Gbps full-duplex bandwidth over 10 channels from an FPGA to an industry-standard multi-mode fiber optic cable. The FireFly™ optical engines provide adjustable power levels to support cable lengths up to 100 m. The Samtec 14 Gbps FireFly™ FMC™ Module supports Data Center, High Performance Computing and FPGA-to-FPGA protocols including Ethernet, InfiniBand™, Fibre Channel and Aurora. As a VITA™ 57.1 FMC™, the Samtec 14 Gbps FireFly™ FMC™ Module can be used for optical data communication on any FPGA development board supporting high-speed multi-gigabit transceivers. It can run system data or BERT testing on all channels in parallel. This makes evaluation and development with an FPGA much easier.

How is this calculated?
Protocol capability of Samtec connectors results from a comparison of the protocol channel data rate and the Samtec Channel Performance Metric (CPM) per product. The Samtec CPM estimates connector performance in a pre-defined channel as illustrated below.
This channel-based approach factors impairments—such as the crosstalk and reflections—inherent in real-world signal channels. Samtec CPM sums all channel noise sources and then determines the resultant signal to noise ratio in a specific mated connector pair. By its very nature, CPM is a function of channel assumptions made and will vary from application to application. Achieving similar results requires good SI design practice in the system PCB(s) and using Samtec-provided connector breakout regions (BOR).
The UEC5-1 series has a CPM of 14 Gbps NRZ.
UEC5-1 products are capable of protocols whose channel data rates are less than this CPM.
