Evaluation and Development Kits
28 Gbps FireFly™ Evaluation Kit
REF-209623-01 / REF-230408-X.XX-01
Company: Samtec
As data rates increase, trace length on PCBs decrease. Samtec's Flyover® Technology simplifies PCB design and limits signal degradation in high data rate applications. Samtec's FireFly™ Micro Flyover System™ offers the flexibility of using optical and copper interconnects interchangeably with the same connector system. The 28 Gbps FireFly™ Evaluation Kits provide system designers, optical and SI engineers an easy-to-use solution for testing the FireFly™ Micro Flyover System™. Rated up to 28 Gbps per lane, these kits allow the designer real-time evaluation of an actively running copper or optical FireFly™ system in their lab. REF-209623-01 supports: x4 configuration in all speeds x12 configurations below 16 Gbps REF-230408-X.XX-01 supports: x12 configuration at 25 Gbps and 28 Gbps The 28 Gbps FireFly™ Evaluation Kits deliver a high-quality system with robust optical, electrical and mechanical design. How is this calculated?
Protocol capability of Samtec connectors results from a comparison of the protocol channel data rate and the Samtec Channel Performance Metric (CPM) per product. The Samtec CPM estimates connector performance in a pre-defined channel as illustrated below.
This channel-based approach factors impairments—such as the crosstalk and reflections—inherent in real-world signal channels. Samtec CPM sums all channel noise sources and then determines the resultant signal to noise ratio in a specific mated connector pair. By its very nature, CPM is a function of channel assumptions made and will vary from application to application. Achieving similar results requires good SI design practice in the system PCB(s) and using Samtec-provided connector breakout regions (BOR).
The PCUE series has a CPM of 28 Gbps NRZ.
PCUE products are capable of protocols whose channel data rates are less than this CPM.
